Let me start off by saying I absolutely love everything about Noah's Memory Match (available for both the iPad and the iPhone). From the app's icon to the happy and entertaining music, to the graphics and game play, the developers did a fantastic job making the classic memory game based on a classic biblical story that kids (and yes, even adults) will absolutely love.
As a parent of a 5 year old and a 3 year old, I know both will gravitate to this app in the near future. You can start by selecting between English and Spanish, which is a nice touch. Then you select either Classic Mode or Timed Mode and once chosen, you can then select a difficulty which is basically the number of tiles on the board (8, 12, 16, 20 or 24).
I LOVE the fact that when you turn over each card, the name of the animal is spoken. It's a great visual/audio tool that will help kids really learn their animals.
When a match is made, the cards combine and then a cute animation actually makes the animal appear in the ark above the game board. Seriously, how cute is that?
I would have loved the completion screen to actually say "Great Work" or something congratulatory as most kids who will be deeply involved in this app won't be able to read the outcome of the game. I also didn't quite understand the necessity behind the TIMED mode as there wasn't any timer on the screen or way to best a time when playing again. Maybe I'm missing it? But really, those are small notes in an otherwise perfect execution.
There are a ton of match games out there, but I love the biblical connection with Noah's Ark, it's fun to fill the ark with the matches animals and I think hearing the name of an animal and seeing it on the tile is a great and fun way for kids to learn their animals. The graphics, music and audio is just top notch for an app that costs less than a buck. I'd highly recommend Noah's Memory Match!
